Skip Bin Guide helps people in Australia hire the right skip and use it properly. We publish guides to choosing a skip, including sizes, types, skip bags and estimating your waste; to what goes in a skip, including accepted and banned items, hazardous household waste, asbestos and heavy waste like soil and concrete; and to permits and placement, including council permits for skips on the street, safe placement, safe loading and ways to reduce and recycle waste. Our skip size estimator turns the size of your rubbish pile into a rough skip size.
Why we exist
Most skip information online is written by companies selling skip hire, and the council and safety rules that matter are spread across dozens of websites. We want home owners, renters and DIY renovators to have a clear, neutral starting point.
How we work
We write every guide in our own words. For rules and safety we rely on official sources, such as the NSW Environment Protection Authority, SafeWork NSW's asbestos website, councils' skip bin policies and Safe Work Australia, and we list our sources on each page. We never invent statistics, prices, quotes or testimonials, and we don't rank skip companies.
Independence
Skip Bin Guide (skipforhire.com.au) is an independent information site. Despite the domain name, we don't hire out skips. We are not a skip bin company, waste contractor, council or government agency, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any brand, business or agency named on this site, any previous operator of this domain, or any business with a similar name. Company names appear in image captions only where they're visible in photos.
General information only
Our guides are general information. Council rules, permit conditions and accepted waste differ from place to place and between providers. Always check with your council and skip provider, and use licensed professionals for asbestos and other hazardous materials.
